Stray Dog Center UAQ is a volunteer-run rescue in Umm Al Quwain dedicated to rehabilitating and rehoming abandoned and stray dogs across the UAE. As a family of dog lovers, we had to go there at least once.
Stray Dog Center UAQ
It is heartbreaking to see how many dogs are abandoned in the UAE each year. Stray Dog Center UAQ, founded in 2013, is a private, non-profit shelter that depends entirely on donations and community support to continue its work. The center provides refuge for countless stray and discarded dogs, caring for them with compassion and ensuring they receive proper food, shelter, and medical treatment.
Who let the dogs out...!
As true dog lovers, we wanted to contribute in a meaningful way, so we decided to support the shelter by booking a sponsored dog walk. For 150 dirhams (around 35 euros), we were able to walk three dogs for an hour.
The fee goes directly toward essentials such as dog food, equipment, and veterinary care. At the same time, the dogs benefit from exercise, fresh air, and much-needed attention outside the shelter — a small but important break from their routine. It truly felt like a win-win situation.
Despite the sadness behind the stories of many of these animals, the experience itself was incredibly special. Spending time with the dogs — seeing their excitement, energy, and affection — brought us so much joy.
Back to the shelter
It was a day filled with mixed emotions: happiness from connecting with these wonderful dogs, yet sadness knowing we had to leave them behind at the shelter once again. Still, it left us feeling grateful to have contributed, even in a small way, to their well-being.
