Snorkel trip; exploring Fujairah's underwater world

The Emirate of Fujairah, located on the eastern coast of the UAE along the Gulf of Oman, is one of the country’s best destinations for snorkeling and diving.
Unlike the western coastline near Dubai, Fujairah’s waters are generally clearer and richer in marine life, making it a favorite getaway for ocean lovers and underwater explorers.
Several excellent snorkeling spots can be found along the Fujairah coast. Among the most popular are Al Dana Island, Snoopy Island, and Shark Island. Each of these locations offers shallow coral reefs, calm waters, and a wide variety of marine species, making them suitable for both beginners and experienced snorkelers.
Snoopy Island is probably the most famous snorkeling spot in the area. The small rocky island, located near Al Aqah, got its name because its silhouette resembles the cartoon dog Snoopy lying on his back.
Just a short swim from the beach, the island is surrounded by coral formations that attract an abundance of marine life.
While snorkeling around the island, it is common to see colorful reef fish such as clownfish, parrotfish, butterflyfish, and schools of sergeant major fish. Larger marine animals also frequent the area.
During our visits we were lucky enough to spot sea turtles gliding through the water and even a few blacktip reef sharks swimming peacefully near the reef. Occasionally, snorkelers may also encounter moray eels, rays, and large schools of shimmering fish moving together around the rocks.
What makes Fujairah especially appealing is that these vibrant underwater ecosystems are easily accessible. Many beaches allow you to simply swim out from the shore, while local dive centers and resorts organize guided snorkeling trips and diving excursions for those who want to explore deeper reefs.
Over the years, we have spent many wonderful weekends along the Fujairah coast, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere, the warm waters, and the incredible marine life. Whether you are an experienced diver or just starting to snorkel, Fujairah offers an unforgettable glimpse into the rich underwater world of the Gulf of Oman.
