Shawka, which means “powerful wadi,” is a seasonal watercourse located near Showka Dam in the Hajar Mountains of Ras Al Khaimah. When we visited, there wasn’t much water in the wadi, but the landscape was still stunning and full of adventure. We climbed the stairs up to the highest point (421 meters), then made our way back down along the mountain ridge to where we started. After about 2 to 2.5 hours, we returned to the car and grabbed a drink at one of the food stalls. From there, it was about an hour’s drive back to Dubai.
