What a delightful day-trip we enjoyed to Al Noor Island, a charming little island nestled in Khalid Lake. Famous for its exquisitely designed butterfly house, the island is a serene escape from the bustling city.
Since its grand opening in December 2015, Al Noor Island has garnered international acclaim, receiving numerous prestigious awards. It was honored with the Best Leisure Architecture in Africa & Arabia 2016, celebrated at the IF Design Award 2017, and recognized with the German Design Award in both 2017 and 2018.
Beyond its architectural brilliance, the island offers visitors lush gardens, tranquil walkways, and art installations that make every stroll a feast for the senses. To reach Al Noor Island, we crossed a charming bridge that sets the tone for the serene experience ahead. At the end of the bridge, visitors can choose between two scenic paths, each leading to different areas of the island. The landscaping is exquisite, with winding pathways, thoughtfully placed art installations, engaging play areas, and picturesque viewpoints that invite you to pause and soak in the surroundings.
We enjoyed a delicious meal and refreshing drinks at the island’s restaurant, which offered a perfect spot to relax and admire the lush scenery. The highlight, of course, was the butterfly house—an enchanting space where colorful butterflies flutter around freely, sometimes landing delicately on your hand, creating a magical, almost surreal experience.
