Exploring Hatta

March 2020

Hatta, part of the Emirate Dubai, is a scenic mountain enclave in the UAE, nestled within the Hajar Mountains near the Oman border. It is located about just an hour's drive from Dubai. Known for its cooler climate, rugged landscapes, and turquoise Hatta Dam, it’s a favorite escape for nature lovers and adventure seekers. The area blends outdoor activities like hiking, cycling, camping and watersports. The highest point in Hatta is 330 meters. Cultural sites such as Hatta Heritage Village, offers a peaceful contrast to the UAE’s bustling cities.

Hatta Dam

Hatta Dam is a man-made structure built to hold back water. Its primary purpose is water storage and flood control. People often call it a 'lake' because of its appearance, even though technically it’s a reservoir.

The lake (reservoir) is a unique tourist destination; it emphasizes the scenic or recreational aspect rather than the engineering function. We booked a pedal boat and spend about 3 hours on the lake, surrounded by mountains.

Unfortunately, it is not allowed to swim in the lake for safety reasons, as it’s deep and designed for water storage rather than swimming.

Hatta Wadi Hub

The Hatta Wadi Hub is an activity centre offering mountain biking, hiking trails, archery, freefall jumps, trampolines, splash park, wall climbing, zip-lining and more.

We did a nice hike and after that we spend some time at the adventure park. We had some snacks at the food trucks. Cool place!!!
